Villajoyosa, when viewed from the sea resembles a toy town. This is due to its colourful cottages facing the sea. Legend has it, back when it was a small fishing village these were fishermen’s homes and they painted them in bright colours as a navigational aid when out at sea. Although navigation is all electronic these days, owners of these properties have continued the quaint tradition. When visiting, be sure to walk the beach promenade and check them out.
It’s a lovely town to explore with an old defensive wall around the town centre. Here you will find a good selection of shops, cafes, tapas bars and restaurants.
