Algar Waterfalls
Algar Waterfalls or Les Fonts del Algar is a beautiful place to visit and is situated just over an hour’s drive from Torrevieja. Visitors to the falls can spend a couple of hours, the whole day or even stay overnight in the picturesque campsite. Those wishing to make use of the campsite should first visit the tourist office. Here you will be informed of the camp rules and prices. There is a main parking area, souvenir shop, first aid station and ablution facilities.
Algar Waterfalls Experience
Declared a Protected Wetland Area, Algar Waterfalls cascades through huge rocks, hills and valleys. The winding walkways take visitors ever higher and offer welcoming picnic spots along the way. There are a mix of deep and shallow rock pools to cool off in. Even in the summer months the water is icy cold so bringing a towel is advisable. The paths and walkways get pretty steep in places, so visitors should wear a good pair of trainers or hiking boots.
If you don’t fancy the expense of a restaurant meal, visitors are welcome to bring along a packed lunch. Just be courteous and keep your rubbish with you until you come across a dustbin. Algar Waterfalls and the surrounding hills abound with many species of flora & fauna. This makes the area popular with nature enthusiasts and birdwatchers.
Algar Waterfalls Surrounds
Not to be missed are the pretty botanical cactus gardens, one of the largest in Europe. There is also an environmental museum popular with visiting school groups. Hungry visitors will find a selection restaurants near the waterfalls. These include the lovely Restaurant Les Fonts. It offers outdoor dining with stunning views of the falls and surrounding hills. A highlight of the area, especially for the young ones is the exciting Dino Park. The park boasts a variety of lifelike dinosaurs, small museum, 3D cinema, children’s playground and a lagoon style pool.
