Villamartin Golf Club
Villamartin Golf Club has been challenging players since its inauguration in 1972. The course was constructed by the aptly named Mr. Putmann and hosted the 1994 Mediterranean Open. Villamartin lies slightly inland about 12 kilometres from Torrevieja. It is one of the most popular areas of the Orihuela Costa with both holidaymakers and resident expats. Directly next door to the club is the excellent Villamartin Plaza. Here there are a selection of shops and some of the best bars and restaurants in Orihuela Costa. It also boasts numerous holiday apartments.
Villamartin Golf Club Course
The course enjoys a commanding position among rolling hills and valleys with views to the sea. During their round of golf players will find welcoming shade among the many pine trees. You will need to be on top of your game though as the squirrels are ruthless spectators. The par for the course is 72 and the total length 6,005 metres. The front nine holes have the best views as they’re located at the highest part of the course. The second nine holes of Villamartin Golf Club can be quite tricky, with deep (brancas) ravines coming into play on several holes.
Villamartin Golf Club Facilities
Within the grounds of Villamartin Golf Club is a large natural grass driving range. Situated near the clubhouse, players can warm up on a well maintained practice area and putting green. Players can choose to walk the course or hire a buggy from the clubhouse. Here you will also find a Pro Shop. The shop hires trolleys and sets of clubs, and sells a great range of top brand clothing and accessories. The ’19th hole’ stocks a comprehensive selection of imported and local beers, wine and spirits. Visitors can also enjoy soft drinks, tea and coffee. Hungry visitors can enjoy views over the 18th hole while enjoying a meal from the well chosen a la carte menu.
The Villamartin Golf Club is a beautiful and scenic golf course located within a mile from the sea between Torrevieja and Murcia Airport at the south eastern tip of the Costa Blanca. It was designed by Paul Putman. It hosted the 1994 Mediterranean Open which Jose Maria Olazabal won after a fantastic play-off with Paul McGinley. It has a Par 72 and measures at 6005 metres. Its 18 holes are plotted out on quite a hilly landscape with the front 9 holes being at the highest point and so offering the best views over the Mediterranean Sea. The other holes are situated amongst valleys with ravines coming into play with several holes. Although it has a membership available, guests are also very welcome at Villamartin and it is opened all year round.
