Alicante Airport opened in 1967 on the Costa Blanca and is situated only 9 kilometres southwest of the capital, in the municipality of Elche. It is a much larger airport than Murcia San Javier and has been continuously growing in size over the years to cope with increasing demand. It now ranks as the 6th busiest airport in Spain due to the large numbers of passengers passing through, on average this can be around 10 million passengers a year. The majority of flights arriving and departing are through the low cost airlines Easy Jet and Ryan Air however there are many more airlines servicing at the airport also.

The new terminal opened on the 23rd of March 2011 and terminals 1 & 2 have since been closed. There are 96 check-in desks and 40 gates, including 15 with air bridges.

Murcia-San Javier Airport

Murcia Airport is located approximately 17 miles outside of the city in an area called San Javier, this gives the Airport it’s name Murcia-San Javier. San Javier is in the district of Santiago de la Ribera on the northern shoreline of the Mar Menor region.
