Murcia Airport is located approximately 17 miles outside of the city in an area called San Javier, this gives the Airport it’s name Murcia-San Javier. San Javier is in the district of Santiago de la Ribera on the northern shoreline of the Mar Menor region. Although it is the smaller of the two main airports serving this region of Spain, it is a popular choice for visitors of the Mar Menor and La Manga region due to its ideal triangular situation for Murcia, Torrevieja and Cartagena. Many chartered and low cost airlines fly in and out of this airport. It’s very easy to navigate through due to its size and easy access roads. There are two main access roads to the airport, the Mar Menor Road, which links it to the city of Murcia and the AP-7. If you’re someone like me who absolutely hates driving in and out of airports due to many different roads and one-way systems, then don’t worry Murcia Airport is very small and very easy for navigating by car 😉
